Welcome to MAORI200 where we examine the origins and unique contributions of mana wahine perspectives and consider the diverse expressions of mana wahine both within and outside the academy. As we traverse the worlds of Māori and Indigenous women I encourage you to embrace the perspectives and ideas that are shared with you.
I also ask that you bring three things to this paper
1: A willingness to learn
2: A positive work ethic
3: Respect for others in this paper
This paper examines foundational aspects of mana wahine scholarship, the impact of colonisation on Māori and Indigenous women, and the resistant spaces negotiated by Māori women including their contributions to decolonisation. Particular attention will be paid to the Mana Wahine Reader volumes One and Two and the 2021 and 2022 Mana Wāhine Hearings WAI2700.
How this paper will be taught
This paper is a FLEXI paper which will involve attendance at lectures on Hamilton campus, with accompanying resources such as Panopto and Zoom provided through Moodle each week. Content will be supported by weekly tutorials on campus as well as via Zoom. All lectures will be recorded.
There will be one face-to-face lecture on Wednesday at 9-11am and the other one hour lecture will be Panopto recorded as a mini-lecture. This is to cater to our FLEXI paper nature and students.
